Keeping your business safe

We want Islington businesses to feel safer by tackling anti-social behaviour.

Protecting your business

Report any criminal activity to the police and report anti-social behaviour to our team.

Shoplifting

The police can prosecute or apply other sanctions against shoplifters.

The police may refer vulnerable individuals to Islington Council’s cost of living support page or refer those facing mental health or addiction issues to support schemes.

What you can do:

  • report all shoplifting incidents to the police
  • train staff on reporting procedures
  • ensure CCTV access for police
  • inform police about banned individuals or repeat offenders

Drug taking and dealing

Police can use stop and search, premises closure orders, and search warrants. They can also conduct regular patrols to deter and catch offenders, as well as engage with drug users to offer support.

You can

  • report drug-related incidents to the police
  • train staff on reporting procedures
  • ensure CCTV access for police

Mental health

Emergencies

Treat mental health emergencies seriously. Call 999 if

  • someone’s life is at risk
  • you cannot keep yourself or others safe

Rough sleeping

Hate crime

Hate crime targets individuals based on religion, race, transgender identity, disability, or sexual orientation. Report all hate crime to the police.

To help you and your staff to identify hate crime, you can take free online hate crime prevention training.

Helping someone in distress

  • In emergencies, call 999. For non-urgent reports, call 101 or report online.
  • Identify yourself and avoid physical contact.
  • Speak clearly and ask for an 'In Case of Emergency' (ICE) contact.
  • Provide support and stay with them until help arrives.

If someone is experiencing domestic abuse, check support available for domestic abuse to Islington residents.
