Damp and mould repairs

How the council responds to reports of damp and mould and how we carry out repairs.

Damp and mould is a problem that can affect most homes and if it is not treated can affect your health and wellbeing.

How we can help

We can help you and work on removing damp and mould and stopping it coming back in the future.

If you have damp and mould in your home, call us on 080 0694 3344 or 020 7527 5400.

After you report damp or mould

Once you've called us, we will arrange a visit with you.

We will inspect your home to find the cause of the problem and explain how we can help and when we can start fixing it.

How we fix damp and mould in your home

We start by cleaning the mould with a fungicidal wash. We apply chemical barriers to affected surfaces and finish with fungicidal paint.

Getting rid of damp and mould can take time and sometimes several visits and fixes. For example, we may need to improve air flow in your home by fitting ventilation fans or fix leaks in your bathroom or kitchen.

Each home is different, so we will make sure what we do is based on your home and situation.

Checking for damp and mould

When we visit, we will also give you advice on managing condensation (moisture in your home), seeing early signs of damp and mould, and what to do to stop it from spreading.

We can also install a moisture sensor – a small box that measures condensation in your home and lets us check your damp levels at any time.

This helps us spot small issues, like if an extractor fan breaks down, so we can call and fix the issue quickly. It also helps us understand the conditions in your home so we can work out the right fix for any condensation, damp or mould.

After we visit

Once the works are complete, we’ll call you 12 weeks later to check that the treatment has worked. If not, we’ll take further action to get the issue fixed.
