Parking for disabled people and the Blue Badge scheme

How and where to park as a disabled person in Islington including applying for and renewing a Blue Badge, free resident permits and what to do if your Blue Badge is lost or stolen.

Lost or stolen Blue Badges

We recommend buying a Blue Badge protector from a reputable supplier to help stop theft of your badge.

We also offer a free resident parking permit to Islington Blue Badge holders that allows you to park in a residents parking bay in your controlled parking zone without displaying your badge. Free resident permits for Blue Badge holders

Stolen badges

If your Blue Badge is stolen, you must report it to the police immediately. You can visit your local police station or call the non-emergency number 101. The police will give you a crime reference number within two working days, which we need to confirm your badge has been stolen.

To request a replacement Blue Badge, you will need to:

  • report your Blue Badge stolen to the police and get a crime reference number
  • complete and return a declaration of theft form
  • where necessary, upload proof of repairs to the vehicle resulting from the theft

Any false statement will lead to prosecution and upon conviction is subject to a fine of up to £100,000.

As soon as we receive the completed form, we will process your request within 14 working days and a further 10 days from the date of postage for your replacement badge to be received.

Please note that without a valid Blue Badge displayed, your vehicle will not be provided an exemption to park. You will need to find an alternative means to park your vehicle legally until you receive your replacement badge.

Lost badges

If you have lost or misplaced your Blue Badge, we expect you to do everything possible to find it. If you cannot find your Blue Badge, we may consider providing a replacement.

To request a replacement Blue Badge you will need to:

You will then be able to print out a certificate and accompanying details. Please note that the police no longer take reports for lost items.

Any false statement will lead to prosecution and, upon conviction, is subject to a fine of up to £1,000.

Once we receive the completed declaration of loss form, we will process your request within 14 working days.
