Recycling at home

You can recycle most plastic, paper and cardboard, glass, and metal tins and cans at home.

Managing recycling in a small space

It can be more difficult to prioritise recycling if you don’t have much space in your home.
We spoke to estate residents about how they manage their recycling and wrote this list of tips based on their answers. Give them a try if you are struggling for space.

  • You don’t need two bins to recycle. A reusable bag or box can work just as well.
  • Use the space you’ve got. Try storing recycling:
    • Under the kitchen sink
    • In a cupboard or bottom drawer
    • On a ledge or in a corner of the kitchen
  • Take it out little and often. If space is limited, empty your recycling regularly to keep things manageable.
  • Make it part of your routine. Some residents take recycling out whenever they leave the flat. It’s a quick win that keeps your space clear.
  • Ask your neighbours. People on your estate are making space for recycling in their homes. A conversation could help you find new solutions.
